We found this one in an old car dealership in McKinney, TX. Think of the car lot where Sam Witwicky found Bumblebee in the first Transformers movie, except this time we discovered a 2007 Ford Mustang GT with a 5-speed manual transmission.
By traditional standards, a classic car is 25 years or older, so this Mustang isn’t a classic car per se, but in my opinion, it’s a true modern classic. The 2004 – 2009 era of the Ford Mustang was designed to pay homage to the original lines of the famous pony car. That’s why, of the three families of the modern Mustang, this era is my favorite.
The 2007 Ford Mustang GT is special. For starters, the 4.6-liter engine produces 300 horsepower, 19 hp more than the previous year. This one comes with the awesome Tremec 5-speed manual transmission. The 2007 model includes all the safety features you want in a modern car, like ABS, traction control, and electronic stability control.
Once we had the car in our garage, it needed a complete overhaul of the front and rear suspension, a full brake service with new rotors and pads, and new gears and pinion for the differential. The paint wasn’t in bad shape, but there were some sun damage on the horizontal surfaces. We decided on a repaint.
We quickly replaced the suspension, brakes, and gears.
Driving this car was an absolute joy! The seating position is extremely comfortable, even for someone 6 foot 2 inches tall like me. The steering communicates well, and the car feels heavy yet agile. The new gears in the differential provide amazing acceleration. I’m sure with the 3.73 gears, it could do 0 – 60 in less than 5 seconds.
Right now, the car is in the process of being painted. We’re applying a fresh coat of Vista Blue, two new racing stripes, and three coats of clear coat. It’s going to look amazing.
I’ll keep you updated on the car’s progress and look forward to the day when this modern classic finds its new home.
